Hema lives in Rochester and has been involved with camp since 2004. Initially, she primarily supported the camp as a kitchen volunteer. In 2013, she joined the Board and in 2016 she became the camp treasurer. Recently (2023), she took on the Executive Director position to continue to serve the camp.
Amrith has been closely associated with the camp for 20+ years and has been in charge of purchasing groceries and other supplies for the camp. She is the owner of the Metropolitan Funeral Chapels, Inc. where she also does floral arrangements. Her hobbies include quilting and doing decorations for various functions at the India Community Center. She and her husband Padmanabh live in Rochester about 15 minutes from the camp site.
Ashish started attending the camp as a camper in 2003 and has continued to stay involved in various roles. He oversees many camp operations including counselor selection, staff training, camp evaluation and continuous improvement. During camp, you will mainly find him helping in the kitchen.
Dr. Kamath is a retired pathologist in Rochester. He and his wife, Amrith have been closely associated with the camp for 25+ years. Dr. Kamath works with the State of New York to ensure the camp meets NY state law for licensed summer camps, handles facility maintenance, and manages the kitchen.
Roopa is an Obstetrician/Gynecologist in Leesburg, VA. She first came to the camp in 1982 in Poconos, Pennsylvania. She was a camper, Karma Yoga Scholar (KYS), and counselor for about 12 years. She returned as a volunteer camp doctor in 2012. Throughout the years, Roopa has been a volunteer at a number of institutions both at home and abroad. Some of her work includes teaching high-risk middle-schoolers through the Higher Achievement Program in Washington D.C., volunteering with the Red Cross in Spain, and working with Mother Teresa’s Center for Sick Orphaned Children and Free Clinic in Calcutta, India.
Nandan Malpani is a pediatrician in Virginia. He has been coming to camp since he was a young child, and has attended camp at both the Poconos and Rochester. Through the years he has been a camper, counselor, head counselor, assistant director, director, and board member. He regards HHSC as his second home, where he has met amazing people who have influenced his life, and learned important values such as “serve, love, give.” As Medical Director of HHSC, he hopes that everyone has a safe and memorable experience at camp.
Devi Parvati has been an integral part of HHSC for over 46 years. She is one of the founding members of HHSC when it was established during the 1970s in the Poconos, Pennsylvania. Devi Parvati has remained very active with HHSC, serving on its Board of Directors and acting as HHSC's Spiritual Advisor. She helps train young camp veterans to assume leadership roles as directors and staff. She oversees the classes in philosophy and chanting, and conducts special classes, pujas, and meditation sessions for the summer camp program.
